Pomona King of the Mountain

Pomona King of the Mountain is a running event held in Pomona, on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland on the 4th Sunday of July each year.

This event challenges competitors to run up the face of Mt. Cooroora, as well as providing other fun activities suitable for the whole family.

The main event is the Bendigo Bank International Mountain Challenge, which is a 4.2km run to the top of the mountain and back. The mountain track is steep and in places is almost a vertical climb. The race has 7 categories: Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Men’s Veteran, Women’s Veteran, Masters and Junior Boys and Junior Girls.

The festival program also includes a 3km Family Fun Run, Prince and Princess of the Mountain, Mountain Bike Ride, Primary School Relay, Tug-O-War, Skate Jam and Masters Bowls Tournament. There is also music jam sessions, live music, buskers, rides and sideshow alley.

The family fun run is a favourite as it is an easy run that can be tackled by the whole family. The route takes families around the park and to the Mountain car park. From there, follow the marked trail to the Mountain Challenge track.

The festival also hosts a Heritage Market which is open from 7am where you will find a huge variety of food and drink. For those looking for some arts, crafts & collectables, head to the Antiques & Collectables Fair where you will find a huge variety of furniture, toys, paintings, china, figurines, books, tools, clocks and so much more.

So come to this fun weekend event in Pomona and enjoy this community sporting event. From Brisbane, travel north along the Bruce Highway approximately 1.5 hours. From Noosa, it will take approximately 20 minutes to reach Pomona via Cooroy.
