Australian Body Art Festival

The Australian Body Art Festival is an incredible celebration of everything body painting.

Its history dates to 2007 when Australian body painter Ria Clauss travelled to Austria’s World Body Art Festival.

Come for the fun to celebrate the return of the Festival back in Eumundi at Matso’s Sunshine Coast. Music by Jaz Sol. Drinks, meals and snacks are available for purchase from the bar!

Over the weekend, there will be numerous opportunities for photos with numerous art installations and some quirky additions to this year’s Festival – all in line with the theme “Time Travel.” Bring the family along to this fun-filled weekend and experience the fabulous creative artwork, entertainment, and interactive fun.

The Festival is centred around body painting in its many and varied forms, from face painting to full body painting using airbrush, brush, sponge, and special effects.

Exhibitions and competitions in speed ultraviolet painting, surfboard art, airbrush, wearable art, face painting, special effects, and so much more are all just a peek at what you can look forward to.

A variety of food stalls will be available to tantalise your taste buds. Market stalls will feature arts, crafts, mead tasting, hair and beauty, jewellery, funky clothing, homewares, fashion accessories and much more.

There will be numerous roving performers, interactive and educational entertainment, and some “Time Travel” surprises! There will also be plenty of photo opportunities, so bring your phone or camera.

Enjoy the day watching the parades and entertainment whilst enjoying a famous Matso’s bevvy at our licensed pop-up bar!

The event sparked an idea, and Ria eventually birthed the country’s very own body art festival. The event has attracted hundreds of creative, passionate volunteers who have worked tirelessly to shine a light on this exceptional talent. The Eumundi and District Historical Association organised the first two years. However, it was eventually transferred to the Eumundi Chamber of Commerce by 2010; the Original Eumundi Markets hosted it in 2015.

By 2017, the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce ran the event, working in partnership with Danielle Taylor and Firefly Solutions, who successfully ran the festival in Eumundi. Today, the festival celebrates all kinds of body art, from body painting to wearable art, filling up two days of unforgettable visuals and sounds with live entertainment for everyone. The event has significantly provided a platform for all artists and spectators, continuously growing in leaps and bounds each year.

The Eumundi Markets Car Park operates on Saturday, with paid all-day parking open until 1pm. It is $9 per car, tap ‘n go only. Car parking will be available close by after the markets close at 2pm.

For a gold coin donation, an alternate carpark with a free shuttle bus service will operate from the Eumundi Showgrounds at 1 Black Stump Road, Eumundi. You can park all day between 7am and 5pm. The shuttle is air-conditioned, fitted with seat belts and has ample storage. It will pick up and drop off in a central location on the main street so visitors can access all areas.
