Dolphin Point Lookout

Dolphin Point Lookout in Noosa National Park is a popular tourist attraction for many reasons. This viewpoint has placed the park on the global tourism map.

It’s a must-visit when on the Sunshine Coast – especially among avid outdoor and exploration enthusiasts.

The best time to visit is from June to November, as this is when you have better chances of spotting whales. Dolphins and turtles can also be seen from the lookout, even during other times of the year. The sparkling waters are also a magnificent colour, especially when one can appreciate the contrast between the black rock and the sea’s spectacular hues.

To make the most out of your visit to the Noosa National Park, a 400-hectare area encompassing areas of Lake Weyba, Peregian, and Coolum, set a day aside to explore via a scenic walk. It will already take you to all the best sights Noosa has to offer.

The walk is 10km long and will take 3-4 hours though it’s always recommended to start in the early morning. Major highlights include the Granite, Tea Tree, and Alexandria Bays. The magnificent pandanus trees, Hell’s Gate, and Devil’s Kitchen are top attractions here too.

After visiting the Dolphin Point Lookout, make your way to Granite Bay. Wear comfortable hiking shoes so that you can safely make the track that increases in elevation up the coast. The higher you get, the more breathtaking the views become. Most of the walk takes you beneath the canopy, though it can get hot, so be sure to bring sunscreen and water.

If you’re keen to explore other destinations in the Sunshine Coast that are famous for awe-inspiring animal encounters, check out Point Arkwright, Point Perry Lookout, and Point Cartwright; all are known for whale sightings.

Be sure to put Dolphin Point Lookout in your itinerary for an unforgettable time.

    • Hi Beverley,

I actually walked this track back in 2019, and by memory, it wasn’t that strenuous and was quite pleasant and was paved all the way.

According to Google Maps and the park maps, the distance from the car park to Dolphin Point is only 1.2km one way and apparently only takes 16 minutes to walk there.

It does mention that there are some short steep sections after Boiling Point, but I don’t recall them being very substantial.

Please have a look at the image gallery on https://www.sunshinecoastpoint.com.au/attractions/dolphin-point-lookout/, as that will give you an idea of the paths that lead there.

Have a great time – it was certainly a highlight of my holiday!

      Thanks
      Michael
