Pomona King of the Mountain is a running event held in in July each year which challenges competitors to run up the face of Mt. Cooroora, as well as providing other fun activities suitable for the whole family. The main event is the Bendigo Bank International Mountain Challenge, which is a 4.2km run to the top of the mountain and back.
The festival program also includes a 3km Family Fun Run, 2.1km Pram Push, Primary School Relay, Tug-O-War and Mountain Dash. There is also a skate park competitions, music jam sessions, live music, buskers, rides and side show alley.
Pomona is also home to a number of heritage listed buildings including the Majestic Theatre, the Noosa Museum, the Pomona Police Station and the Cooroora Masonic Temple. The Majestic Theatre is the oldest surviving silent movie cinema in the world. This cinema was built in 1921 and initially meant to accommodate sporting and social events. Today, the cinema is continuously running and showing popular classic retro movies.
