Pomona is a small residential town located in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, just a short 30-minute drive from Noosa.

Best known for the Pomona King of the Mountain racing challenge, Pomona is a quiet town that boasts many heritage sites.

Pomona King of the Mountain is a running event held in July each year that challenges competitors to run up the face of Mt. Cooroora, as well as providing other fun activities suitable for the whole family. The main event is the Bendigo Bank International Mountain Challenge, a 4.2km run to the top of the mountain and back.

The festival program also includes a 3km Family Fun Run, 2.1km Pram Push, Primary School Relay, Tug-O-War and Mountain Dash. There is also skate park competitions, music jam sessions, live music, buskers, rides and a sideshow alley.

Pomona is also home to heritage-listed buildings, including the Majestic Theatre, the Noosa Museum, the Pomona Police Station and the Cooroora Masonic Temple. The Majestic Theatre is the oldest surviving silent movie cinema in the world. This cinema was built in 1921 and was initially meant to accommodate sporting and social events. Today, the cinema is continuously running and showing popular classic retro movies.

Pomona is also home to a supermarket, restaurants, takeaway food outlets, clothing stores and a train station. You will also find a range of accommodation options in Pomona, including a range of private cottages and B&B’s. These cottages offer rural views in a quaint and relaxing setting, with many properties having private ensuite, TV, air-conditioning and internet access.
