The lake is excellent for fishing, especially for Bass, Perch, Mary River Cod, and Saratoga. Avid birdwatchers also frequent this spot for the numerous bird species one can find here. Canoeing is another perfect activity here because of the lake’s calm waters; however, visitors can also enjoy much of the lake’s surroundings simply by going on a stroll or doing a picnic.

The lake’s borders right next to the Noosa Botanic Gardens are particularly scenic for a picnic. The gardens feature an amphitheatre that is a good spot for outdoor entertainment and concerts. If you’d like to stay a night or more, Lake MacDonald is open for camping at Camp Cooroora on its northern banks. Other amenities found here include BBQs, a kids’ playground, a mountain biking trail, car parks, walking tracks, a horse-riding trail, showers, and toilets.

That’s not all you can do here: the lake marks the start of the Noosa Trail Network, which is a famous destination for mountain bikers, runners, horse riders, and walkers. The network comprises eight picturesque trails in the hinterlands, and there are signs throughout, so visitors don’t need to worry about getting lost. There are trails available for visitors of varying skills too. It is recommended to bring along a Noosa Trail Network Guide with you; this helpful document outlines the various flora and fauna you will encounter here, plus other sights along the way.

Lake MacDonald and its surrounding areas have so much to offer visitors that love spending time in nature and the outdoors.
