Wootha

Wootha is a rural town on the Sunshine Coast. Its name comes from a Kabi language word that means ‘red cedar tree’.

The town has a tiny number of residents, which is why its remote and wild nature makes it so appealing to intrepid travellers.

There are a few accommodation choices in town, including mountain retreats and the like. The Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World is a major attraction in town. Despite its name, it’s located within Wootha! The gardens are a must-visit, especially for avid botanists and nature lovers, or simply anyone who wants to experience the true tranquillity brought about by being in a peaceful, beautiful garden.

Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World is a privately-owned establishment. Boasting 18 acres of lush gardens within 110-hectare farmland, you’ll get to delight in the views of the Glass House Mountains from here, all while being surrounded by verdant rainforest. There are ponds, waterfalls, and vibrant flowers to discover while you’re here. It’s also home to bird aviaries, which feature a dazzling array of colourful birds from all over the globe. There are more than 700 birds here – truly a great activity for bird lovers.

McCarthy’s Lookout is also nearby and is worth a day trip if you are up for the fitness challenge. It’s renowned for amazing views of the Glass House Mountains. Alternatively, you can also take your car up to the lookout. Once you get here, you can enjoy a coffee and some food on the picnic tables. There are several lookouts, which can be found on the way to the lookout, where you can stop and enjoy the views.

If you’re up for some wild adventures in remote lands, Wootha and its surround are worth a visit. Make sure you check out the range of accommodation choices nearby, including some holiday houses, bed and breakfasts, cottages and retreats.
