Amamoor is a small town in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, located just 18kms south of Gympie via the Bruce Highway.

Best known as the home of the Gympie Music Muster, Amamoor is a beautiful country setting with many natural attractions.

Amamoor State Forest Camping, Gympie Music Muster, Qld

Many people come to Amamoor for the Amamoor State Forest, home to Bunya Pine, the Red Cedar, Hoop Pine and White Cedar. It has one of the largest swimming holes in Queensland and is home to various endangered frogs and platypus species.

Popular activities within the Amamoor State Forest include picnicking, taking walks on the bush trails, mountain bike riding and horse riding. Picnic facilities are provided beside Amamoor Creek at Amama day-use area. Facilities include picnic tables, BBQ’s, toilets and tap water.

There are two camping areas in the Amamoor State Forest: Cedar Grove Camping Area and Amamoor Creek Camping Area. Both are suitable for tents, caravans and campervans. Amamoor has toilets, BBQ’s and individual fire rings. Cedar Grove has similar facilities but does not have BBQs. Dogs are permitted in Amamoor but not in Cedar Grove and must remain on a leash at all times. Camping permits for all campsites must be booked in advance and can be booked online.

In August each year, thousands of people flock to Amamoor for the Gympie Music Muster. This 4-day festival has been entertaining locals and visitors to the Sunshine Coast for over 30 years and hosts some of the best entertainers in Australian country music.
