The QPWS Great Sandy Information Centre is open from 8am to 3:30pm every day except Christmas. If you happen to make it after business hours, you can also make use of the lit display that shares information on permits, camping, and updated conditions at Fraser Island and Cooloola.
A visit to the centre is always helpful, especially for first-time visitors to the Great Sandy National Park. The park is divided into the Cooloola Recreation Area in the south, then Rainbow Beach in the north. For adventure lovers, there’s four-wheel driving, whale-watching, and fishing too. Don’t miss the famous coloured sands of Fraser Island on the eastern side; they make for amazing photos.
