Lake Dunethin Pier

The Lake Dunethin Pier is a popular spot for visitors who want to participate in water sports, explore the Maroochy River, or relax.

This pier is highly recommended if you are in the area and want to do some exciting water sports, paddling, or unwind while watching the sunset. Just bring along some insect repellent as there can be many mozzies at dusk.

During the daytime, many kids and adults enjoy swimming and jumping off the pier too. It’s a dog-friendly area, and you can take your pooch off-leash as long as they are friendly.

Lake Dunethin Pier is a great jumping point for paddling out, which many believe to be the best way to discover the Maroochy River Trail. Even if you’ve never paddled before, there’s no need to worry since Dunethin Lake is calm, making it ideal for novice paddlers. On the other hand, seasoned paddlers can explore the larger river trail right from the pier.

For many, the lake is a hidden gem of the Sunshine Coast. This small inlet is located halfway between Bli Bli and Yandina. Compared to all other options to get to the Maroochy River, this area is the most tranquil since it’s hardly ever affected by tides, low water, and winds. Birdwatchers also frequent the area as it’s home to an abundant population of birds of prey, including Brahminy Kites, Ospreys, and White-bellied sea eagles.

There are also many other destinations to discover around the Maroochy River. These include Chambers Island, Bradman Ave Foreshore, or Picnic Point. An excellent picnic spot is in Cotton Tree, as it’s located near the river mouth. Cotton Tree has become

a well-loved beach destination as well as for water sports.

Lake Dunethin Pier and its surrounds are a great jump-off point for discovering many gorgeous places on this side of the Sunshine Coast.
