Mount Mellum

Mount Mellum is a small rural township on the Sunshine Coast, some 75 kilometres away from Brisbane. The town is one of the more off-the-beaten-path destinations with acres of wide fields and wildness to explore.

Because of how secluded and remote it is, this makes a terrific choice for adrenaline enthusiasts such as four-wheel drivers, mountain bikers, and seasoned bushwalkers.

There are a few amenities in town, such as the Mountainside Permaculture Nursery, which is a must-visit for those with a passion for growing plants, and permaculture. There are also a few charming bed and breakfast choices as well.

Mount Mellum is 7 kilometres away from the nearest town, Landsborough, which also has lots to offer for travellers. This small town is just 5 minutes away from the iconic Australia Zoo, established by none other than Steve Irwin. The zoo is one of the world’s best and a true legacy left by the famous crocodile hunter. In town, other things you can do include scoping out the museum, checking out the quaint shops, and a historic local pub.

Check out the Beerwah Forest Reserve and the State Forest for those keen on a true nature immersion. The State Forest is home to an abundant amount of wildlife as well as thriving plants and flowers. Be sure to be quiet when you visit so that you have a better chance of encountering animals in the wild. Four-wheel drive tracks have something to offer both beginners and seasoned drivers and several trails for hikers and mountain bikers.

Camping is a popular activity in the area; it’s the best way to see the sights. Choose from numerous campsites all around the area, and some can accommodate campervans and caravans as well. Other accommodation types include caravan parks, motels, holiday houses and retreats.

Mount Mellum and its surrounding areas are a genuinely wonderful getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.
