Currimundi Lake

Currimundi Lake is the perfect destination for a family-friendly holiday.

Just an hour away from Brisbane, this lake is situated between Maroochydore and Caloundra, offering visitors from all over a relaxing respite from city life.

Everything you could need for a day with the kids can be found here. The calm waters allow young toddlers to safely wade and play about in the water, while the trees provide shade for picnics. The lake’s chill waters are excellent for canoeing, boat rowing, paddle boarding, kayaking, and swimming for all ages, though adults can also opt to swim in the open ocean. There’s no need to bring your own equipment either; if you’re visiting for the day or don’t have water sports equipment, rent from a shack right on the beach.

Currimundi Lake is a must-visit for those who enjoy fishing. Some abundant species include bream and whiting; be sure to bring your own yabby pump. During the afternoons, it’s not uncommon to see visitors strolling with their dogs; this is a dog-friendly area, too, especially for pups who enjoy wading by the foreshore. If you’re staying nearby and want a scenic place for jogging and walking, this place is perfect for that as well.

For those with active kids looking for more unique experiences that are both fun and physically rewarding, check out the many playgrounds here. The Cliff Hargreaves Park is right by the foreshore and is equipped with picnic facilities, BBQ pits, and toilets.

Additionally, the lake is next to the Kathleen McArthur Conservation Park, named after a local conservationist and artist. They also founded the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland back in 1962. Kathleen was particularly passionate about protecting wallum heathlands in the Sunshine Coast, a wildflower popularly depicted in her illustrations. This park is terrific for a day of bushwalking.

Currimundi Lake and its surrounding attractions have plenty to offer nature lovers.
