Yandina Historic House

The Yandina Historic House is a fascinating museum and art gallery. The house was built from 1899-1900 by John Gustave Sommer, who was a local pioneer.

It had changed ownership several times throughout the decades before the Yandina Historical Society took it over in 2003.

This museum is the best place to visit to learn more about the rich history and culture of Yandina. It houses a fantastic collection of items, including the papers detailing the history of Yandina written up by the late Fred Fink. The museum has a digital display that tells the story that includes many significant events of the town’s humble beginnings, from 1870 through today.

The Yandina Historic House is a must-visit because, as one of the oldest towns on the Sunshine Coast, there are fascinating stories to tell. It also houses an art gallery, which features works by talented local artists that reflect the house’s traditional nature. All the artworks are for sale, so you might stumble on a piece or two that resonates with you. Some artists on display include Sonia Benesovsky, Wendy Britton, Nicole Burr, Julie Chadwick, Kristy-Ann Duffy, Leigh Elks, Jo Gabe, Stuart Gollan, Cassandra Hanley, Jo Hawkins, and many more.

Visit the on-site craft shop where incredible handmade items are up for grabs. If you are looking for one-of-a-kind pieces to take home and one that you absolutely won’t find anywhere else, this gift shop has you covered. Visitors can also speak to one of the artists to create a custom-made piece.

The museum café serves Devonshire teas, quiche, salads, soups, and other light lunch options. It’s a great place to relax as you soak up history, culture, and knowledge. Don’t forget to pick up a copy of the Yandina Heritage Trail brochure while you’re here.

The Yandina Historic House is a top attraction in town, and for a good reason.
