Toolara State Forest

Toolara State Forest is located between the Fraser Coast and Gympie in Queensland, though most of the land is within the Gympie region.

A majority of the land use is for the State Forest, except for a small strip found in the east, and the rest is a small portion of the Great Sandy National Park.

The state forest is home to around 42,000 hectares of lush vegetation and majestic pine trees, among other tall trees that serves as a habitat for many wild horses. One of its unique features is the vibrant red earth that you’ll notice on the roads, which creates a stunning contrast against the greens of the environment. The roads are most suitable for four-wheel drives, as it’s the best way to get around too.

When visiting the Toolara State Forest, you may be able to spot wildlife such as kangaroos, birds, and koalas. However, there are no tourist facilities here, so if you intend to sightsee for the day, let someone know where you’ll be going and bring along water and food. After a day trip, explore the rest of the Gympie region, where you’ll find even more thrilling outdoor activities.

One of the most popular attractions in the Gympie region is Rainbow Beach, which is a small scenic beachside village that has become a popular destination for coastal holidays. It also boasts unique coloured sand cliffs that tower over the white sand and blue surf and offers visitors abundant opportunities for outdoor activities, including surfing, fishing, diving, paragliding, skydiving, four-wheel driving, and so much more.

Don’t miss out on the charming villages within the Mary Valley, which has gained a reputation as the ultimate adventure playground. From forest areas to rainforests, the Mary River, and Borumba Dam, there are simply tons you can do outdoors while here.

Toolara State Forest and the many sights in Gympie should be on the top of your itinerary if you love scenic adventures!
