It’s usually visited by travellers coming to or from Kenilworth and the nearby tourist attractions in the area. You can even go on short walks to stretch your legs before you rest for another drive. There is some history to the park, which began in 1940, as the Main Roads Commission came up with plans to reroute the Eumundi-Kenilworth Road to build a new bridge crossing the Gherulla Creek.

The bridge was also meant to replace one that was previously built in 1927. Mr Bert Sims, who owned the property, sent a proposal for the Kenilworth Chamber of Commerce so that he could donate the land for as long as they instead turned it into a memorial for the Kenilworth District’s pioneer farmers. As a result, we have Pioneer Park today. For those who want to explore this quiet part of the coast more, there are some areas where you can set up camp as a base for your travels.

The Gheerulla Camping Area is a terrific choice; it’s accessible by 4WD, trail bike, and on foot. Its facilities include non-flush toilets, picnic tables, car camping, tent camping, and camper van camping. Campfires are allowed here, and it’s only a short walk to your tent. The spot is close to the Gheerulla creek so that you can cool down during the day, but don’t forget to bring some essentials such as drinking water, rubbish bags, sunscreen, and insect repellent.

Pioneer Park and the surrounding stunning destinations are perfect for intrepid travellers.
