The trail loop is only 2.1 kilometres long, and locating the beginning of the trail can be pretty tricky. The main path is faint, but it will take you straight up to the west peak. It’s relatively easy, though some level of fitness is required to complete it – be sure to have a rest every few minutes if you feel tired. Once you reach the summit, you can enjoy some of the most breathtaking views of the Glass House Mountains from here.

Mount Coochin has twin peaks, and getting to the other peak is notorious for the scrambling required. A trail takes you to the other side, where you can see a saddle between the twin peaks. Heading back down, keep in mind that you’ll have to retrace your steps. Regardless of which peak you choose to ascend, it will be completely worth it for the views.

There are some things to keep in mind when climbing the mountain. Many say that it’s good to bring along some trekking poles because it’s beneficial in some parts of the climb, especially loose rocks. It’s not advisable to ascend when the ground is wet from rainfall. One of the best things about the hike is that you may spot some wildlife, such as to monitor lizards and a great variety of plants and flowers. Most of the time, you’ll have the entire mountain to yourself, making it suitable for a leisurely walk or meditation in nature.

Mount Coochin and the other Glass House Mountains offer terrific hiking and breathtaking views.
