The park surrounding the lily pond is equipped with amenities, including shaded picnic areas, BBQs, a playground, spacious fields, outdoor gym equipment, seats, and a skate park. The lilyponds, which were once just a swamp, are the park’s highlight, which is perfect for families to get together. Kids love watching the ducks swim peacefully, though other birds can also be seen here.

Some bird species that live in the Mapleton Lilyponds include the Pacific Black Duck, Australasian Glebe, Dusky Moorhen, Masked Lapwing, and Australasian Swamphen. It’s clear why this destination is a well-loved place among bird lovers and bird watchers.

For visitors that want to explore the area more thoroughly, you’ll be glad to know there are several walks you can choose from. These include the 6.7km Piccabeen Circuit and the 8.5km Kureelpa Falls Circuit located at the Mapleton Day Use Area.

With all the lush greens and ponds available here, there’s more to discover. Check out the Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World nearby, which is home to a sprawling three hectares of private gardens as well as a café with spectacular views of the sea and the Glass House Mountains. This is another unique attraction with something for everyone, especially botanists and nature lovers.

If you are travelling with kids, don’t miss out on another fantastic spot nearby, the Mapleton Observatory. Four amateur astronomers run it, though don’t let that fool you: they will tell you everything about the night sky, and it will surely blow your mind away. Kids especially love it and will be encouraged to ask questions, so parents, this is a must-visit!

The Mapleton Lilyponds and nearby attractions are perfect for visiting with the entire family in tow.
