Imbil State Forest

The Imbil State Forest is a spectacular attraction located 150km away from Brisbane on the Sunshine Coast.

There are many factors why this forest reserve is special. For one, it’s home to the first hoop pine plantation in Queensland, which was built in the early 1900s. Another reason is that it’s a playground for serious adventure and nature lovers.

One of the best ways to explore the park is by driving from the Borumba Dam through the forest to Imbil. The drive is 14km long and suitable for all types of weather, and takes you to a lookout and short walk.

Imbil State Forest is also home to over 120 bird species that occasionally visit the Amamoor State Forest. Check out the Bellbird Feature Protection Area, where visitors will be treated to the delightful song of bellbirds as you walk about or have a picnic. BBQs and picnic tables are already provided here.

The Borumba Dam is nearby, which is a terrific location for camping, fishing, canoeing, and boating. Additionally, you may want to spend a night or two at the Borumba Dam because camping is prohibited within the forest.

The Charlie Moreland campgrounds are another scenic place to park for a day or more by the forest. Take in the open spaces and lush greens around you; the picturesque surrounds, pine plantations, and Little Yabba Creek make the perfect place to pitch a tent. Some of the facilities at the Charlie Moreland campgrounds include water taps, picnic tables, flushing toilets, BBQs, payphone in the ranger’s office, fire pits, and a horse paddock.

The forest and its surroundings also have several fantastic trails that can be explored on a bicycle or on foot. The Fig Tree walk, which is a 780m long circuit, is one of the most popular, but be sure to wear closed shoes because of the stinging nettle. Little Yabba Circuit is 1.5km return, and Piccabeen circuit is 3.5km return.

Imbil State Forest is an excellent idea for your next thrilling adventure.
