HMAS Brisbane Lookout

The HMAS Brisbane Lookout is one of the most scenic viewpoints on the Sunshine Coast.

Located in Alexandra Headland, this monument is a must-visit if you are in the area.

HMAS Brisbane Lookout, Viewpoint Address, Alexandra Headland QLD

The monument pays homage to the HMAS Brisbane and all of the soldiers who fought in it; it’s the 2nd vessel that served in the Royal Australian Navy. It was responsible for carrying the United States Seventh Fleet in Vietnam back in 1969, then again in 1971. It was also the last ship that served the Royal Australian Navy in Vietnam. The ship was also one of four Australian warships that fought during the Gulf War.

The lookout showcases the fabulous Sunshine Coast, and several plaques on-site make it easy to learn about the history of this monument. The shipwreck isn’t located too far off the coast too, and it now serves as an artificial reef that can be visited on a scuba diving trip.

If you’re lucky, you might get to spot some whales from the lookout during your visit. Bring comfortable walking shoes so that you can take in even more views of the Alexandra Headland on the coastal pathway.

The HMAS Brisbane Lookout is located right in the centre of the beautiful Alexandra Headland picnic area, a great place to take your family. The picnic area is the ideal location for enjoying the sunrise or sunset and having some food and coffee while taking in the splendid views.

The area is shaded and equipped with picnic tables and chairs for everyone’s relaxation. A small play area for toddlers is nearby; it has bouncy toys and a sandy pit for safe play after picnicking.

The HMAS Brisbane Lookout and surrounding attractions in Alexandra Headland make this the ideal family-friendly stopover during your visit.
