The Gympie Racecourse provides an intimate racing experience because of its smaller size. There are membership perks available for patrons; its top-of-the-line facilities include a bar, restaurant and dining, canteen, tents, marquees, grandstand, bookmakers, and tote service among others.
The Gympie Turf Club plays an important role in the racing industry, having been conducting race meetings in town for over 150 years now. In fact, the first race meetings took place as far back as 1868, which was at the height of the Gympie Gold Rush. They operate at the Adrian McClintock Park. They have 9 race days a year.
With the popularity of thoroughbred horse racing in Australia as a spectator sport, visiting the racecourse is one of the best ways to experience the local culture. Thoroughbred horse racing is the third most well-attended spectator sport in the country just behind rugby league and rules football. Internationally speaking, there are more racecourses in Australia than any other country in the world!
Having said that, a visit to the Gympie Racecourse during a race will be one of the best experiences you’ll have in the Sunshine Coast.
