Carlo Sandblow

The Carlo Sandblow is one of the most iconic and stunning attractions in Rainbow Beach.

Famous for its surreal moonscape terrain, this unique sand mass is over 15 hectares large, and from here, one can enjoy views of the coloured sands and the coast stretching from the Inskip Peninsula to Double Island Point.

The best way to experience the sand mass is by going on a walk, which is just 2.8km each way, allowing you to complete it in one hour. Be sure to wear your most comfortable walking shoes to ensure safety during the experience.

You will be taken through beautiful eucalyptus forests and rainforests, and once you get to the sand blow, its stunning landscape will surely take your breath away. Though this destination is gorgeous any time of day, it’s charming during the late afternoon, where you watch the sunset set into the waters of Tin Can Bay.

The Carlo Sandblow is located in Rainbow Beach, within the Cooloola Recreation Area in the Great Sandy National Park. After a visit here, it’s worth spending time to check out the other attractions within the park. It’s popular for excellent, scenic four-wheel driving where you can drive past coloured sands, massive sand cliffs, and the sea. Water sports are popular here too, especially canoeing on calm days. Bushwalkers will love walking through the rainforest and camping when the vibrant wildflowers are in bloom during the spring.

The facilities available in the Great Sandy National Park include wood and fuel BBQs, a park office, information centre, picnic tables, payphone, and toilets. Lookouts are placed around the park.

Getting here is a three-hour drive from Brisbane, though you can also fly through the Hervey Bay Airport or the Sunshine Coast Airport. Visitors can also go via the Greyhound buses that head to Rainbow Beach from Brisbane, though there are other departure points.

The Carlo Sandblow is one of the fascinating sights on the Sunshine Coast!
