The museum’s origins can be traced to England, where the first social history museum of Britain, known as the Abbey Folk Park, was established in 1934 by Rev. JSM Ward. His passion for history and antiques led him to found the Abbey Folk Park, and after several tumultuous years due to the wars, it was then moved to Caboolture, in its current location.

Travel back in time, past 500,000 years, when you explore the relics and displays of the museum. With a focus on British origins, the collections span prehistoric Europe, through the Bronze and Iron ages, past Medieval Europe, and modern times. Artefacts are taken from ancient Greece, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Cyprus, and so much more.

Just some of the artefacts you’ll find at the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology include prehistoric tools, stained glass, ceramics, carvings, manuscripts, metalworks, and rare books, among others. The museum is also home to an equally impressive art collection featuring Baroque and Renaissance paintings, icons, and watercolours.

Education programs with a focus on history are also available at the museum. Primary and secondary schools often book these programs as students enjoy learning history through the variety of engaging activities available, allowing them to learn further about Ancient Rome and Egypt, Medieval Europe, Aboriginal Australia and much more.

The Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology caters to general visits, self-guided and guided tours, and group tours. Get in touch to reserve and book a tour slot in advance. They also offer Heritage Trails at Glass House Mountain and Moreton Bay, destinations where visitors can learn about the significance of Traditional Custodians who play such an important role as stewards of these lands.

Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology is located at 1-63 The Abbey Place in Caboolture, Queensland.
