Emu Mountain

Emu Mountain is a popular tourist destination located between Coolum and Peregian Beach. Its name comes from Peregian, an Aboriginal word that means Emu.

It’s popular for scenic yet easy walks that enable you to reach the summit in just 20 minutes.

Emu Mountain, Mt Peregian Summit Hike Trail, Noosa National Park QLD

The best time to visit is from June to November, as this is when you have good chances of spotting humpback whales as you head over the top. There is nothing quite like the experience of watching pods of whales that are breaching not too far from the shoreline.

The walk is only 1.1 kilometres return, and you’ll pass through lush wildflowers as well as the endangered Mt Emu she-oak trees before you reach the summit. At the top, marvel at the fantastic panoramic views of the coast from Noosa to Maroochydore.

The Emu Mountain Summit Walk makes up part of the Emu Mountain area in the Noosa National Park. Access for conventional 2WD on the sealed roads is available, though parking can be limited, especially during busy months. Alternatively, you can also take the bus to the mountain.  The Hakea Walk is another trail featuring a side summit link trail.

When visiting, keep in mind that there are no tourist facilities. Camping and fires are prohibited, and it’s recommended to bring your own water and snacks for energy along the way.

The hike tracks are easy enough for both young and old of average fitness abilities to enjoy, as the incline is mild. For safety purposes, always follow the local signs as these contain valuable information. Check weather conditions before heading out as well.

Emu Mountain is a must-visit for anyone looking for a scenic bushwalk and a unique experience in the Sunshine Coast.
