Caloundra Lighthouses, Heritage-Listed, Prices & Hours, Kings Beach QLD

A visit enables you to step back in time as you experience what an actual lighthouse is like. The two heritage-listed lighthouses invite you to climb the stairs, take a peek around and even scope out the balcony.

This attraction is managed by a community group called Friends of the Caloundra Lighthouses, and they take great care to ensure its good maintenance and cleanliness for the public. They are volunteers who are passionate about the significance of these lighthouses to local history and culture.

The lighthouse with a vibrant red top is the original structure, erected in 1896 and has retained much of its old details. Though there are no spiral staircases here, you can reach the top by climbing the steep wooden stairs, which can pose a challenge, and it’s not for the faint of heart! Once you reach the top, a stair hatch will lead you to the balcony, and you can climb out another hatch to reach it.

It’s worth it – you will be rewarded with a spectacular 360-degree view! Visitors are urged to practice caution when visiting the Caloundra Lighthouses. Since there are no safety rails, only a few people are allowed inside at each time.

The Signal Tower, built in 1968, has a spiral staircase and is much easier to climb. You can see the magnificent Glass House Mountains, Pumicestone Passage, and incredible sea views from the top.

The lighthouses are open on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month from 9AM to 3PM.

Not to be missed is the generator building, which is a living museum showcasing numerous historical items that take you back to Caloundra’s early days. Here you’ll get to see photos taken from the late 1800s and see the original generator in its actual location. Ask a volunteer about the old lens and learn how it works.

The Caloundra Lighthouses are a spectacular historical attraction that should not be missed.
